For those who may be interested, I’ve just added the sanguinary Baron Drykos to the Characters page. As the Planet X saga continues, and new characters are introduced to the story, I’ll continue to add entries on some of the more significant ones to the page so new readers can get a quick fix on who everyone is.
By the way, have any of you recognized the cinematic inspiration for the Baron’s black leather outfit?
I’m not sure about cinema, but he certainly reminds of Metron from Jack Kirby’s New Gods characters.
I was thinking Scorpius from Farscape
Nope. Most of what inspires me is much older than that. 😉
Metropolis?
Did some of the bad guys in the Buck Roger’s serials wear that costume?
I know I’ve seen that outfit before.
I’m fairly sure it didn’t show up in the Flash Gordon serials.
If no one has gotten it by next week, I’ll reveal our inspiration. 😉
Planet of the Vampires? (ok, I cheated – didn’ t know the movie but searched the web). Looks great though… Love the Comic, too.
Yeah, Mario Bava’s classic space horror flick Planet Of The Vampires – or more specifically, the black leather uniforms worn by the cast – inspired Baron Drykos’ outfit. Good call. You should definitely check out the movie, though; it’s terrific (and no relation at all to the 1975 Atlas comic of the same name).
Ah! I thought of that movie later but couldn’t think of the title. Oh, I remembered the ending best. [Evil Grin]
Not exactly the same costume, but Drykos’ vibe is like that of Carradine’s Frankenstein in Deathrace 2000.
