I wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the 80th anniversary of cartoonist Alex Raymond‘s seminal interplanetary adventure comic strip, Flash Gordon, which debuted on this date in 1934. I don’t think it’s any secret that Flash, in its many incarnations (comic strip, comic books, novels, TV shows, movie serials and feature film) has been – and continues to be – a major inspiration for Perils On Planet X…
In the “recent” live-action TV series “Buck Rogers”, there was an episode with an older character named Brigadier Gordon. Buck warns the Brigadier about something and the Brigadier comments that he’s been doing this (flying a spaceship) longer than Buck’s been alive. Buck comments something about “do be so sure of that” and the Brigadier replies something like “Oh, I’m very sure of that”. The actor playing was IIRC Buster Crapp who had played both Rogers and Gordon. So it was implied that Brigadier Gordon was Flash Gordon. [Very Big Grin]
